Charles Moriarty

Charles M. Moriarty is generally regarded as one of the most effective trial attorneys in New Jersey. During 40 years of practice, Mr. Moriarty has successfully tried over 150 cases in Federal and State courts involving matters where the State sought the death penalty, and cases ranging from murder, drug kingpin, racketeering, robbery, sexual assault, Megan’s Law, drug-related crimes, securities fraud, antitrust violations, tax fraud, Medicare violations, RICO, official misconduct and many other crimes. Mr. Moriarty has also successfully tried numerous civil matters involving complex personal injury, medical malpractice, and business disputes. Additionally, Mr. Moriarty has also advised numerous high profile individual and corporate clients under investigation in which his clients avoided indictment or other proceedings..

In addition, Mr. Moriarty is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil and Criminal Trial Attorney. There are over 85,000 practicing attorneys in the State New Jersey and only 43 of them are Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as Trial Attorneys in both Civil and Criminal law.

Leadership, Membership & Honors

Criminal defense is a significant part of Mr. Moriarty’s practice, and many of his cases have received attention in print media, on television, and on the Internet. While he relishes his work on these complex trials, he has said that some of his most significant victories were those in which a client was being investigated for wrongdoing, but, thanks to his legal intervention, was never charged.

Mr. Moriarty also handles all types of traffic matters, concentrating heavily on Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and other alcohol and/or drug-related offenses. He has lectured countless seminars and training courses involving criminal and DWI jurisprudence.

Mr. Moriarty is a former President of the Monmouth County Bar Association and Municipal prosecutor in several towns with more than 40 years of experience in criminal and personal injury law. Mr. Moriarty has served on the adjunct faculty of Rutgers Law School – Newark. Mr. Moriarty is one of the founding members of the Hayden Proctor Inns of Court.
